Not What You Were Expecting When You Said You Wanted Grilled Cheese

Sandwiches! The most underappreciated food out there, think about it, there are all different kinds of breads, meats, cheeses, peanut butter & jelly… the list is endless yet a common phrase I hear is “eh, I’ll just have a sandwich.” And it bugs me a little, I wont lie. Don’t even get me started on the whole debate on if a hot dog is a sandwich or not… Okay… maybe I am thinking too much into that but they are absolutely one of my favorite go-to meals, especially a warm meat & cheese, with a side of soup… grilled cheese & tomato soup on a cold winter evening… mmmm makes my belly warm just thinking about it!

Over the last few days you would think this whole house is on a high carb diet with all of the sandwiches we’ve eaten … and I also made banana bread!🙊

Struggling to find an easy transition from my little bread rant to my step by step instructions for the warm meat and cheeae recipe I’m going to walk you guys through… so here we go!

I got the inspiration for this here , Hellmann’s Strangewich.

Ingredients:

Mayonnaise, ham or another meat you like, cheese- I used American and muenster, bread of your choice.

I don’t care for ham, I usually change out the ham with Turkey or just avoid meat all together and have an extra cheesy sandwich!

Step 1.

Lay your 2 pieces bread out and spread mayo 1 side of each piece… Yes, you read that right, you are using the mayo instead of the butter here!

Step 2.

Place one of your bread slices and put it on your skillet, mayo side down.

Step 3.

Now add your cheese and meat, I always try to place the meat between two slices of cheese so it all kind of sticks together. Then you’ll add your other slice of bread, mayo side facing the ceiling

Step 4.

Cook until it’s browned to your perfect preference on the bottom and the cheese is starting to melt & then flip to the other side and do the same.

Transfer your grilled sandwich to your plate, either cut and enjoy or just dig in!

Meatless:

Ingredients:

Bread, cheese, & mayonnaise.

Instructions:

You literally do everything the same but leave out the meat.

Ingredients:

  • 2 slices of bread
  • Cheese of choice
  • Mayonnaise
  • Lunch meat of choice

Instructions

  1. Spread mayo onto 1 side of each of your bread slices and place in your frying pan, mayo side down .
  2. Add your toppings- cheese than meat and more cheese (opt). Place the other slice of bread on top, mayo side up.
  3. Cook until the bottom slice is nice and brown… or tan if you like it that way better. Flip and do the same thing. Remove from stove top when done to your likeness!
